Bruno Guimaraes issues heartfelt message as injury blow rocks Brazil camp

Brazil are currently based at the training ground of one of Guimaraes’ former clubs Athletico Paranaens as they prepare to face Ecuador in a World Cup qualifier in the early hours of Saturday morning. And just days before the game, Dorival Junior’s side have been rocked by an injury to Flamengo and Brazilian league top scorer Pedro. The 27-year-old, previously tracked by some of the world’s biggest club, sustained the problem in training and is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Taking to Instagram, Guimaraes wrote: “Brother!! No words to describe how sad I am for your injury. I know what the Brazilian national team means to you. Since we were little we always dreamed of it and I know your struggle and your daily delivery to make it possible.

“As you always say, God knows all things. And really he knows. Lots of faith, focus and work on your recovery!! You're going to come back stronger than ever and I have no doubt about it. You know what you need you can count on me brother.

“Like I told you, use this time to take care of your family, your princesses, the greatest blessing that God could have given you. I love you and count on me until the end. 🙏🏽”

“Thank you very much for the message and the strength,” Pedro replied. “God is good all the time. I love you brother. Together since forever and ever! ❤️”

Brighton and Hove Albion striker and former Newcastle transfer target Joao Pedro has been called up in the player’s place.

Junior’s men are under pressure for the match against Ecuador and then Paraguay on Wednesday having won just one of their last eight competitive matches. They have lost each of their last three in qualifying, leaving them sitting sixth in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying group out of 10 teams.
