Bruno Guimaraes is reportedly top of Real Madrid’s wishlist to replace Casemiro should he join Manchester United.

During his eight months on Tyneside so far, the Brazilian has established himself as a cult hero with a string of world-class performances.

Guimaraes was one of the key reasons why the Magpies surged to Premier League safety last season - scoring five goals in 17 appearances.

Not only that but the 24-year-old has adhered himself to the Geordie-faithful via his popular Twitter account.

The Real Madrid link

Indeed, Guimaraes being linked with the likes of Real Madrid won’t come as a surprise to any fan, which proves how highly-rated he is at St James’ Park.

However, the timing will, especially with Guimaraes just two games into his first full season as a Newcastle player.

According to Spanish publication AS, Guimaraes is under strong consideration by the European champions in the event that Casemiro leaves.

It’s claimed Casemiro, Brazil international teammates with Guimaraes, is weighing up an offer from Manchester United.

That said, Carlos Ancelotti’s side acknowledge how difficult it would be to sign Guimaraes, with AS adding United will demand double of the £40million they reportedly paid for him January.

Bruno is front and centre of Newcastle’s project

Even then, that might not be enough to prise Guimaraes away, with the central midfielder front and centre of the club’s exciting project.

When he first joined, Guimaraes made no secret of his desire to challenge the top end of the Premier League and one day lift the Champions League title with the Magpies.

And even since then, he has spoken positively about Newcastle United and the supporters.

“I look to do my absolute best for Newcastle,” Guimaraes said in April. “It’s what the team deserves. The fans are really passionate., it’s a club with a great tradition and an amazing fanbase.

“That’s why I aim high - it’s important for me. I believe in the potential and this club and what we can achieve. And the fans do too.

“The affection the fans have for me is incredible. I love the fans.

“Whenever I’m out on the street, they ask for a photo, they shout my name, and I do feel a bit embarrassed at times!

“But I hope to continue and pay back on the pitch all the affection they have for me.

“I want to do my best for them. I really believe in our project, our fans and our team.”

It’s only paper talk, but it really is difficult to envisage Guimaraes leaving Newcastle any time soon.
