Bruno Guimaraes has named Palmeiras midfielder Raphael Veiga as a player who would "fit" Newcastle United.

Veiga is a former teammate of Guimaraes at Athletico Paranaense, where the pair lifted the Copa Sudamericana in 2018. Veiga scored 10 goals in 48 appearances during a loan spell before returning to Palmeiras.

The 28-year-old has netted 84 times and provided 34 assists in 261 outings for Palmeiras. He has previously been linked with Fulham and Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Guimaraes believes the Brazilian would be a success in the Premier League.

“He is one of the names that would fit here," Guimaraes told ESPN Brasil. "He takes corners well, shoots from distance, has a good set piece. We were together in 2018, at Athletico-PR . I believe he can have a very good future if he comes to Europe.”

Veiga has been capped by Brazil six times and in a recent interview with Spanish outlet AS spoke about the prospect swapping South America for Europe.

“I like a lot of European teams. Barcelona , Real Madrid , City, Arsenal and others like Manchester United ... it's difficult to name just one. There are impressive teams and they all have something special and interesting,” said Veiga.

“I love Kevin de Bruyne . He plays the same position as me and I pay a lot of attention to him. He is my favorite player and the one I like to follow the most.

It's not the first time Guimaraes has recommended a fellow Brazil to Newcastle. The 26-year-old revealed Lucas Paqueta was his "dream" signing before he joined West Ham United for £51million in 2022.

“It would be my dream (to sign Paqueta),” Guimaraes told ESPN. “Paqueta is my best friend.

“We made a relationship, not only on the field, but we lived together all the time outside. Our wives together too. It was a brotherly relationship, we still talk every day. It would be really cool if he could come here, but I can’t do this job.”
