Bruno Guimaraes has revealed he held talks with 14-time European champions Real Madrid during the summer transfer window.
Reports emerged from Spain that the 24-year-old was under consideration following the £70million departure of Casemiro to Manchester United in August.

The La Liga giants, however, did not sign anyone after losing Casemiro having already brought in Aurelien Tchouameni from Monaco for £85m earlier in the summer.
Although Eddie Howe was able to play down the Madrid speculation, it’s clear the current Champions League holders admire Guimaraes and will continue to monitor his development.

“Real Madrid is the best team in the world,” Guimaraes told the Daily Mirror. “It is nice. It was just a conversation, but it is nothing.”
After Guimaraes starred by scoring a brace in the Magpies’ 5-1 win over Bournemouth on Saturday, Howe admitted the club landed themselves a bargain when they signed the Brazilian for £35million from Lyon in January.
Eight months and 32 matches later, there is already a debate over whether or not Guimaraes is the club’s best-ever midfielder, or indeed player, in terms of his natural ability.

Buying into Newcastle’s project
It’s no wonder a team like Real Madrid could come calling at any point but Guimaraes believes in Newcastle’s owners and their ambitions to make the club a powerhouse in world football.
“I never doubted the project since the beginning, I believe it,” Guimaraes, who joined United when they were 18th in the league table, said. “I always want to play in the Premier League.
