Bruno Guimaraes has congratulated Anthony Gordon on earning an England call-up - before sending him a cheeky warning ahead of his potential international debut.

A scintillating campaign received its reward when Gareth Southgate’s squad for the upcoming break was announced. Gordon has bagged 10 goals and seven assists across all competitions this season to become a stalwart under Eddie Howe.

The 23-year-old has arguably been the Magpies’ standout performer in 2023-24, making that left-wing spot his own. Gordon struggled upon arrival and, by his own admission, was not physically strong enough to cope with Howe’s demands.

But a summer away with England’s junior ranks laid the foundations for a fruitful campaign on Tyneside. A near-perfect under-21 Euros campaign resulted in Gordon winning the competition and scooping the Player of the Tournament award.

He has continued that form to club level despite Newcastle’s struggles this season. Many expected Gordon to earn an international call-up during the last break in November. Southgate admitted he was “close” to making the squad at the time but, four months on, Gordon finally has his wish. The Three Lions boss named the winger in his 25-man squad for the upcoming clashes against Brazil and Belgium.

Those friendlies were scheduled to provide England with stern competition ahead of Euro 2024 in Germany this summer. Interestingly, Newcastle fans could witness an in-house battle should Gordon make his debut next week. England face Brazil on March 23 - with Toon favourite Guimaraes set to come to Wembley. The midfielder congratulated Gordon once news broke about his senior call-up before sending him a warning about their upcoming clash.

“Congrats bro, you deserved it! See you at Wembley,” Guimaraes wrote on social media. The Brazilian is preparing for his first showing at the national stadium since the Carabao Cup final defeat last year.
