Bruno Guimaraes is set to miss Newcastle United’s Premier League trip to Liverpool on Wednesday night.

The Magpies star missed the 1-1 draw at Wolverhampton Wanderers - where Allan Saint-Maximin volleyed home a late equaliser - with a “slight” injury.

And United head coach Eddie Howe hopes Guimaraes can return for next weekend’s clash with Crystal Palace at St James’ Park.

“Bruno has a slight injury and will hopefully only be out for a couple of games,” Howe said after the result at Molineux.

Sean Longstaff played the ‘Bruno role’ in Newcastle’s midfield by sitting deepest of the three, with Joelinton and Joe Willock either side.

Guimaraes’ injury, alongside Jonjo Shelvey, who is ruled out until November, leaves United short in that area with Elliot Anderson the only recognised midfielder on the bench.

The Brazilian had started all three of the club’s Premier League matches up until Wolves.
