Callum Wilson has been linked with a move away from Newcastle United this week

Arsenal have no plans to make a late move to sign Newcastle United forward Callum Wilson this month. That's according to Football Insider, who claim the Gunners are prepared to wait until the summer transfer window to add further firepower to their squad.

Mikel Arteta's side were one side said to be keeping tabs on Wilson's situation at St James' Park, with Manchester United and Chelsea also linked by the Evening Standard. However, a move for Wilson now looks unlikely ahead of the February 1 deadline.

Wilson has been a key man under Eddie Howe this season, bagging seven Premier League goals in 14 appearances, before stints on the sidelines with hamstring and calf issues, with the latter set to rule him out of this weekend's FA Cup fourth round clash with Fulham. Talk of Newcastle's apparent willingness to part ways with the 31-year-old always looked a little odd, then, and Howe underlined the forward's importance when speaking to the press earlier this week.

"That’s been a strange one really because there’s been a lot of speculation regarding Callum and I’ve seen some of it, probably not all of it but a lot of it, I think, has been unfounded," Howe said.

He added: "In every conversation I’ve had with Callum, very similar to Kieran [Trippier], he’s 100 per-cent committed to Newcastle. No part of him is looking elsewhere, he wants to come back and score goals. He’s got big ambitions for the second half of the season.

"I want to keep him here but obviously some things are out of my control and of course the club is acting with the long-term interest of the club. It has to, I understand that and I’m fully supportive of it. Let’s see what happens.”

According to HITC, though, it seems Arsenal may well be willing to do battle with Newcastle for the signing of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City. Dewsbury-Hall is attracting attention from a host of Premier League clubs in the closing stages of the window, with Brighton and Hove Albion reportedly making an approach, while Newcastle, Arsenal, Everton, Brentford and Fulham are all said to be keeping tabs on the midfielder, who has bagged nine Championship goals this season.

The report claims Leicester may be willing to part ways with Dewsbury-Hall, should their £30m valuation be met, which might just rule Newcastle out this month given the financial fair play pressure they are currently under.
