UEFA has hinted at Newcastle United’s return to the Champions League with a provisional list of the 24 teams currently set to enter the group stage of the competition next season.

Tweeting to its 48 million followers, the Champions League posted ‘Next seasons group stages as it stands’ highlighting the Toon’s involvement.

The post itself namechecks Newcastle alongside Feyenoord, Union Berlin but it’s United who take centre stage with the featured image.

Newcastle are currently third in the Premier League table, one point away from confirming Champions League football for the first time in 20 years.

United’s home game against Leicester City tonight should all but confirm their historic achivement with the Foxes currently sitting in 19th position fighting relegation.

And with UEFA’s tweet, it seems the Magpies aren’t the only ones who are confident about a Newcastle win under the lights at St James Park.
