Chelsea legend John Terry heaped praise on Newcastle United following their historic 4-1 win against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night.

The Magpies’ first Champions League home game for 20 years was a memorable one as goals from Miguel Almiron, Dan Burn, Sean Longstaff and Fabian Schar shocked the French champions and those watching across Europe.

And somebody who did tune in was Terry, a five-time Premier League winner and one-time Champions League winner with Chelsea. And he posted a series of posts on social media on the night and the day after.

“Wow… Newcastle Utd,” Terry said on X. “What a big performance this is. I love watching them play.”

“Just re-watched the Newcastle game from last night, so refreshing watching them play, tactically excellent. The passion from the players and supporters is superb and exciting to watch rather than making 100 passes and going nowhere, Newcastle play with a purpose. Eddie Howe.

“Also unbelievable recruitment.”

Newcastle have spent around £400m on new signings since being taken over by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, PCP Partners and RB Sports & Media but three of the scorers, Almiron, Longstaff and Schar were at the club pre-takeover.

Under the management of Eddie Howe, the Magpies have gone from battling Premier League relegation to qualifying for the Champions League in just over 18 months.
