‘Not ideal’ - Chelsea issue complaint before huge Newcastle United game
Enzo Maresca has called upon his Chelsea players to “adapt” to the awkward midday kick-off time against Newcastle United.
Broadcasters forced the change due to Chelsea competing in the Conference League on Thursday. TNT Sports were originally going to showcase the fixture for the 12.30pm early kick-off slot today.

The Magpies are level on points and goal difference with Maresca’s men and face a tricky trip to Arsenal next weekend. If other results go Newcastle’s way, a huge three points could mean they need to beat the Gunners or Everton on the final day to seal a minimum fifth-place finish.
Enzo Maresca not a fan of 12pm kick-off time
Speaking after a youthful Blues outfit brushed aside Djurgarden in the Conference League, Maresca was asked about the “not ideal” kick-off time. He said: “It's not the ideal situation. It's 12 o'clock in the morning, it's the first thing in the morning, but we need to play the game.
“So we need to adapt immediately, prepare the game in the best way and, as I said, hopefully we can continue our good moment. They (Newcastle) are very aggressive. They are very aggressive, especially when we are on our side.

Enzo Maresca jokes about ‘top’ St James’ Park atmosphere
The Italian also backed his players to cope with a fervent home crowd inside of St James’ Park. Maresca added: “You think? I don't know. But for sure the environment will be top. The (Chelsea) players, they're going to embrace that and they're going to deal with that, no doubt.”
Eddie Howe on midday kick-off time
At his pre-match press conference, Eddie Howe backed the Toon faithful to be in full voice despite the 12pm slot. He said: “I'm sure it will be a great atmosphere on Sunday. We need to crowd with us. We always say that, but it's absolutely imperative in these last two games that we know they will be for us.
“We have to be ready for the game. I think I've said before this week, sometimes with the early kick-offs they can just surprise you a little bit. You wake up and it's just very unusual for the players and they have to adapt. Then the crowd has to adapt and we all have to adapt to be ready for the kick off and to be in full voice.”
