Newcastle United moved up to third in the Premier League table with a 4-1 win at Southampton - three points that ensured the club will remain in the Champions League spots during the World Cup break.

Miguel Almiron handed the Magpies the lead on 35 minutes to score his seventh goal in as many games. Callum Wilson went off ill at half time but that didn’t matter as substitute Chris Wood doubled the advantage.

Joe Willock netted his first goal of the season and Newcastle’s third before Romain Perraud pulled a goal back for the Saints in the closing stages.
