It has been a quiet January transfer window for Newcastle United as they consider the next move in their attempts to boost Eddie Howe's injury hit squad.
The latest blow remains fresh with Brazilian midfielder Joelinton now facing up to the prospect of missing the remainder of the season if he requires surgery on the groin injury he suffered in the recent FA Cup win at Sunderland.
There are hopes the likes of Harvey Barnes, Joe Willock and Jacob Murphy will finally make a return to contention before the end of the month - but Newcastle are still aiming to add at least one new face to their ranks before the window comes to a close.
With the midway point of the January transfer window now upon us, NewcastleWorld assesses the latest transfer issues facing the Magpies hierarchy and look at the latest speculation at St James Park.
1. Yankuba Minteh
There were some claim Newcastle could recall the summer signing from what has been a promising loan spell with Feyenoord - but with no recall option it seems almost certain this move will not take place during January and Magpies supporters will have to wait until next season to see the young winger in action.
2. Joe White
The young midfielder has enjoyed a very successful loan spell with Crewe Alexandra and is now back on Tyneside, with Eddie Howe admitted he will assess White as he continues to deal with a selection crisis in the middle of the park.
3. Max Thompson
Thompson has also enjoyed a productive temporary stint away from Tyneside but he is back with United's first team setup after his loan spell at Northampton Town came to an end. Cobblers manager Jon Brady has revealed he has been told Thompson will be around the Magpies senior keepers - but another loan stint elsewhere can't be ruled out. Photo: Pete Norton
4. David De Gea
The same can be said of De Gea, who was reportedly discussed as a possible target as the former Manchester United goalkeeper remains a free agent following his departure from Old Trafford during the summer.
