‘Completely different’ - Lewis Hall makes St James’ Park atmosphere claim at Newcastle United

Lewis Hall is grateful for having Newcastle United supporters on his side whenever he steps out at St James’ Park.

Ironically, the defender’s first Premier League appearance came on Tyneside - although he was wearing Chelsea blue. Joe Willock bagged a worldie in Newcastle’s last game before the mid-season break for the 2022 World Cup.

Little did Hall know that he would be joining the Magpies nine months later. Despite being from Berkshire, the 20-year-old is a lifelong Newcastle fan.

His dad, Colin, is from the North East but relocated south due to work. He took an unwavering passion of all things black and white with him and relayed them to his sons.

Hall has now opened up about his Premier League debut and how he now enjoys sampling the St James’ Park crowd. He told the top flight’s YouTube channel: “I played there (St James’ Park) before as a Chelsea player. For me, that was special in itself as my first Premier League game.

“It was then just a completely different feeling knowing the fans were behind me when I did it for Newcastle. It’s a bit more intimidating when you play there away from home. The fans are always behind you so it was an amazing feeling (to play at St James’ Park).”

The youngster also hailed Eddie Howe for implementing a high-intensity philosophy at Newcastle. Hall added: “It’s always been in the DNA of this manager. Obviously, I wasn't here when he first joined.

“But when I arrived, I knew straight away what the team club was about. I think we’re more than just a pressing team. We’re a very good footballing side when we want to be, we’ve got so much quality in the team. When we do those two things right in the game, we’re a really tough opponent for anyone.”

Lewis Hall left ‘gutted’ by season-ending injury at Newcastle United

Hall cruelly missed out on the Carabao Cup final and will play no further part in the 2024-25 campaign after breaking his foot against Liverpool last month. Speaking to the club website about his injury, he said: “It's gutting, especially with the games coming up. There's so much to play for until the end of the season and I was looking forward to them so much.

“So it's devastating, not just for me but being able to help the team. I feel like my season's gone well and it's come at probably the worst time.

“I would want to continue playing but we had to look at my career and agree on what was best. If I was to play through the pain, things could have got worse which would have a negative impact on my career long-term.

"Honestly, I would play through anything if I could. Obviously the cup final is a massive game. I'd played in all the games leading up to it and I'd like to think I've played a big part in us getting to this stage."
