AFC Bournemouth have agreed a deal with Serie A side Roma to bring Justin Kluivert to the Premier League.

It’s been 18 years since the name Kluivert graced England’s top-flight when Justin’s father Patrick turned out for Newcastle United during the 2004-05 season.

Netherlands legend Patrick enjoyed a decorated career after bursting onto the scene as a teenager at Ajax between 1994 and 1997, where he won the Eredivisie twice and the Champions League.

Following a short spell at AC Milan, Kluivert moved to Barcelona in 1998 and went on to score 122 goals in 257 appearances before joining Newcastle as a free agent in 2004.

During his one season at St James’ Park, the now 46-year-old netted 13 goals in 37 appearances. He had spells at Valencia, PSV Eindhoven and Lille before retiring in 2008.

Justin has not yet hit the heights his father did, despite once being viewed as one of Holland’s most exciting young prospects. The 24-year-old joined Roma from Ajax in 2018 but has spent the last three seasons on loan at RB Leipzig, Nice and Valencia.

He will, however, get a shot at the Premier League. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Bournemouth have agreed a transfer worth £9.5m plus £850,000 add-ons. He’s on the verge of signing a contract until 2028.
