Lloyd Kelly has passed a medical at Juventus ahead of completing his move from Newcastle United.

An official confirmation is imminent, with clubs having until 11pm to complete their winter business. Kelly only joined the Magpies last summer on a free transfer from Bournemouth.

It was Eddie Howe who signed him for the Cherries in 2019 and the duo reunited at St James’ Park. The 26-year-old was understood to have been targeted by Liverpool before making the Tyneside switch.

Kelly - who can also play at centre-back - went into the season aiming to pin down the left-back spot. He started two of the first three Premier League games this season but has seen first-team opportunities limited since.

The versatile defender last started a top-flight game on November 25 - the 2-0 home defeat to West Ham United. Lewis Hall has emerged as one of the shining lights in 2024-25 to make the left-back position his own.

And at centre-back, Dan Burn, Sven Botman and Fabian Schar are ahead of him in the pecking order. Kelly came on in the dying embers against Fulham on Saturday, a game that looks destined to be his final Toon appearance.

Newcastle are now set to rake in a tidy profit for a player they signed for nothing just seven months ago. Juventus pipped Fenerbahce to Kelly's signature and the player has completed a medical in Turin.

An official announcement is expected in due course, with the deal initially on loan before being made permanent for £20million at the end of the season.

However, the deal is not entirely without complication. Italian outlet DiMarzio states Lloyd Kelly is still having quarms about his transfer to Juventus .The English footballer, as a non-EU citizen, must obtain a visa for a work permit in Italy, now it's a real race against time. The report states that at this time, the paperwork to obtain the visa is in progress. The bureaucratic issues to arrive at the filing of the contract are being resolved: we are therefore proceeding towards the filing of the contract.

NewcastleWorld understands there is no desire from the Magpies to dive into the market before tonight’s deadline.
