William Osula has already outlined his high-intensity playing style - and it comes as music to Eddie Howe’s ears.

Newcastle United are expected to wrap up the 21-year-old’s arrival in the coming hours. Osula landed on Tyneside yesterday to complete his medical ahead of penning a multi-year deal.

Toon chiefs are understood to have stumped up around £10million - with a further £5million in add-ons. Newcastle were desperate for a breakthrough in the window, with further deals being scoped out.

Despite joining from Sheffield United, Osula is a relative unknown, with most of his appearances last season coming from the bench. But after agreeing a loan deal with Derby County two years ago, the Dane promised a direct and creative playing style - straight from the Howe textbook.

“As a player, expect me to be direct, fast, quick and creating stuff,” Osula said. “Obviously, my job is to score goals so hopefully I can provide that.”

Former Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom also delivered Osula high praise following a frustrating start at Bramall Lane. The 47-year-old called the forward - who can play out wide or as a No.9 - a "fantastic young talent”.

“Will has had three really frustrating years with growth-related injuries and illnesses and things like that,” Heckingbottom said. “He has missed so much football, but we really like him and think he’s a fantastic young talent.

“If someone gets on the ball with the chance to play Will in, or play forward, Will’s body language is so aggressive. He comes alive, he’s alert.”
