Newcastle United transfer target Dominik Szoboszlai ‘loves the Premier League’ and has already made his mind up over a move away from RB Leipzig - according to German journalist Guido Schafer.

The Hungary international is said to be drawing interest from both the Magpies and Premier League rivals Liverpool as both clubs look to strengthen their squads ahead of the new season. Szoboszlai has spent the last two and a half years with the Bundesliga club after joining them from RB Salzburg in a £21.5million move in January 2021 and has gone on to become a key figure at the Red Bull Arena.

The 22-year-old has scored 20 goals and provided 22 assists in 91 appearances in all competitions and scored his side’s first goal as they claimed a 2-0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt in the German Cup Final earlier this month. The final weeks of the season brought intense speculation Szoboszlai was one option being considered by Newcastle as they look to add further quality to their ranks ahead of the return to the Champions League.

As NewcastleWorld revealed last week, the Magpies have held talks over a possible deal for the 32-times capped Hungary star, who has a £60million release clause in his current deal and Leipzig are believed to want that fee paid in full. Liverpool have also reportedly held talks over a move for Szoboszlai and Schafer believes he knows which way the attacking midfielder will head if it comes to a straight choice between the Premier League rivals.

Speaking to Liverpool podcast ‘Anfield Roar’, Leipziger Volkszeitung journalist Schafer said: “He (Szoboszlai) wants to leave. He said ‘I want to make the next step’, and he loves the Premier League.

“If he can choose between Champions League with Newcastle and Europa League with Jurgen Klopp, he will choose Klopp and the Europa League. That is for sure. This is an outstanding club and the best manager in the world. For me, it’s very very true that Szoboszlai wants to go to Liverpool, not Newcastle, not Man City.
