Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe has addressed the lack of minutes handed to summer signings Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall.

The Magpies made Livramento their third summer signing in a transfer worth £35million from Southampton but his only appearance so far came in the closing stages of the 1-0 defeat at Premier League champions Manchester City last month.

Hall, meanwhile, hasn’t featured at all. The 19-year-old has joined on loan from Chelsea, a move that will become permanent for an initial £28m next summer and potential £7m add-ons.

Asked about the £70m-rated pair’s situation. Howe replied: “You will see them on the pitch. When? I’m not sure. ’ll always pick a team that I think gives us the best chance of winning.

“Tino is training very well but he’s fighting with Kieran who’s been outstanding for us this season. Tino we see being a huge part of our future and it’s the same with Lewis.

“Lewis has come having played no minutes during pre-season. He’s an outstanding prospect and is again training very well. We’re building up and competing for that starting spot.”

Newcastle travel to Sheffield United in the Premer League on Sunday before hosting Man City in the third round of Carabao Cup. It is then both players may be handed their full debuts.
