Newcastle United frontman Callum Wilson has dropped the biggest hint yet he’s set to return to action.

Wilson has been absent from the United first-team since suffering a calf problem in the 1-1 home draw with Manchester United in late December.

Despite that, however, Wilson remains the Magpies’ top scorer this season with six goals.

And while head coach Eddie Howe has been cautious when asked about a possible return date for the player, Wilson is being less coy on social media.

Having perviously teased fans with an update suggesting April was the month he’d return, on Tuesday, Wilson issued his latest update via Instagram.

Wilson posted a highlights of reel of his goals this season, including a spectacular effort at Crystal Palace earlier this season with the caption: “🔋⌛️.”

What Wilson means by his latest update is clearly up to interpritation, however, the battery full and time already run out suggest his return may well be close.

When Howe last spoke, prior to the 1-0 loss to Liverpool on Saturday, he said: “Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson are getting closer but I don’t think they will be ready for this week.”

England international Trippier too has provided an update on his injury status, suggesting he may well be available for the trip to his former club, Manchester City, on Sunday.

Newcastle United travle to the Etihad Stadium this weekend, then they have just two games remaining after that encounter with Arsenal on Tyneside eight days later before a final day visit to Burnley on Sunday, May 22.
