The 30-year-old, whose contract was extended by the club in the summer, is back training individually ahead of a return in the New Year.
Eddie Howe on Paul Dummett
Howe told NewcastleWorld: “He will be an important player. I’ve always liked him.
“His situation is he is back out running with the physio and sports scientist on the grass, which is a great sign.

“But I still feel he has a little way to go before he’s available for selection.”
Injury latest ahead of Leicester
Howe revealed Fabian Schar had injured his ribs in the 1-0 win over Burnley but is hopeful he’ll make the trip to Leicester City on Sunday.
“Couple of knocks and niggles,” Howe said. “Nothing outstanding.
“I think Fabian Schar had a rib problem earlier in the week - he missed a bit of training but hopefully he’ll be OK.”
