Eddie Howe reacts to Newcastle United’s Brighton draw - and that controversial Callum Wilson call
Newcastle United claimed a point on the south coast as their unbeaten start to the Premier League season.
The Magpies played out a 0-0 draw on the south coast, but had the heroics of Nick Pope and defensive prowess of makeshift left-back Dan Burn to thank for honours staying even.
A controversial Callum Wilson goal was ruled out early doors for United but that’s as good as it got, as Brighton dominated in terms of possession, field position and chances as the game wore on.
And here’s how head coach Eddie Howe reacted to the Seagulls’ stalemate.
“I’d need to see it again,” Howe said on the Wilson decision. “My initial reaction was I thought it was harsh and given too quickly. The decision could have been let go to see what VAR said but it wasn’t to be.”
Howe added: “Always disappointed not to win but very pleased with a point in the end, especially after the second half. I thought it was a difficult second half, Brighton played very well.
“We rode our luck at times but dug in and showed a great spirit and unity. We got a valuable point.”
