A Joelinton strike ensured Newcastle United go into the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final with a slender advantage.
The Brazilian popped up with a match-winning finish in the second half after smart work by Alexander Isak opened up the opportunity.

And here’s how head coach Eddie Howe reacted to the Southampton win - and the latest links to Everton attacker Anthony Gordon.
“Our approach was to win the game tonight,” Howe said. “It was very tight, I don’t think we were at our best today but I felt we did enough to deserve to win.
“There were a lot of talking points, obviously VAR was involved but we’re delighted to win.”
On the Gordon links, Howe said: “Honestly, I’ve got no idea. I’ve been preparing for the game. I wouldn’t comment on individual players anyway.”

Asked if United are closer to making a new signing, Howe added: “I don’t know, which I think is the right answer. I’ve got no idea, I’ve not checked my phone. We’re actively looking but I have no update for you.”
