Eddie Howe reacts to Newcastle United’s Crystal Palace draw - and that penalty call

Another game against Crystal Palace, another stalemate for Newcastle United.

For the third time this season, the Eagles and the Magpies played out a 0-0 draw, a result which saw the Eddie Howe’s side leapfrog Manchester United into third place in the Premier League.

However, it very much felt like two points dropped for United, who failed to open up an eight point gap between themselves and fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

And here’s how head coach Howe reacted to the result, as well as that Joelinton penalty shout.

“Difficult game but we played well,” 45-year-old said. “We got into dangerous positions and created chances. We had moments in both halves; if there was a team that was going to win it, I thought it would be us, but we had to credit Nick Pope for a great save. He didn’t have a lot to do today. He’s been great since he came in and we see that in training every day.

“The changing room is disappointed we didn’t win. We wanted more control in the second half; there were moments the ball flashed across the box and nobody was on the end of it. There are things to improve for us, but we are seeing continued improvement. We are not firing as much as we’d like, but we are working on that.”
