A Miguel Almiron cracker ensured Newcastle United claimed their sixth win on home turf, the first time they’ve done that since Bobby Robson was in charge at St James’ Park.
And, in beating Crystal Palace, they also reached the 40-point mark with five games remaining, a remarkable feat, given they didn’t win any of their opening 14 games this season.

And here’s how head coach Eddie Howe reacted to the victory. He said: “The players have given everything since I arrived.
“They’ve been excellent. Defensively, we’ve vastly improved, and that second-half was a tough examination.

“Once again, everyone to a man was excellent.”
So, what about a potential top 10 finish?
Howe replied: “I think it’s just game by game. It’s a very quick turnaround to the next game but we’ll try and go to Norwich and win the game.

“We have a very difficult run-in. It’s great that we’ve got the points that we have at this moment.”
