Eddie Howe has provided the latest on Kieran Trippier after the Newcastle United right-back underwent a progress scan on Friday.

The England international has been recovering from a broken metatarsal picked up during the 1-0 victory over Aston Villa on February 13.

After a period of wearing a protective boot and being on crutches, the 31-year-old took part in some light work at Dubai’s state-of-art Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex last week.

Howe confirmed on Friday that Trippier was going for a progress scan and there was a chance he could return “quite quickly”.

However, following the 5-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur, Howe revealed the result means Trippier is unlikely to return “ as quickly as we initially wanted”.

The Magpies head coach said: “His injury is healing, it’s not totally healed.

“We will be able to start pushing him, maybe not as quickly as we initially wanted to, but I still think he’ll come back this season.

“Again, there’s no definitive date on that but he’s making good progress.”
