Jamaal Lascelles trained with Newcastle United during the trip to Saudi Arabia, despite limping off during the 1-0 win at Leeds United.

The Magpies’ club captain was one of three players to limp off at Elland Road. Joelinton picked up a groin problem, while Paul Dummett was fatigued.

While Lascelles was fit enough to take part, Joelinton and Dummett were forced to watch on from the sidelines.

The positive news is Howe doesn’t believe neither of their injuries are serious, with hope they will return in time to face Everton on February 8.

Lascelles, Dummett and Joelinton update

“Jamaal Lascelles has trained this week, so that is really positive news for everyone,” Howe revealed.

“Joelinton and Paul Dummett haven’t, but we don’t think their injuries are too serious.”

Meanwhile, there was some encouraging news surrounding Federico Fernandez.

The Argentine injured his thigh in December - last featuring in the closing stages of the 1-0 win over Burnley at St James’ Park.

Fernandez, 32, is back in individual training, though remains “some way” away from full fitness.

Howe said: “Fede is back running with physios on the grass but he is not training.

“He would still be some way away from returning, but fingers crossed he is moving in the right direction now.”

Are there any other injury concerns?

Matt Ritchie missed the game at Leeds with a knee injury, and didn’t play in the friendly against Al-Ittihad on Friday. There was also no sight of Martin Dubravka, Emil Krafth and Jamal Lewis.

Callum Wilson isn’t expected to be back until March, while Isaac Hayden is recovering from knee surgery.
