Elliot Anderson will not be leaving Newcastle United on loan this month - according to head coach Eddie Howe.

The 20-year-old is yet to start a Premier League game this campaign, with all eight of his appearances coming as a substitute, the most recent being the 3-0 Boxing Day win at Leicester City.

Anderson stole the headlines during his half-season loan at Bristol Rovers last year, so it’s no surprise Football League clubs have reignited their interest in the attacking midfielder in January.

Howe, however, has no intention of letting Anderson go, especially after an injury to Jonjo Shelvey left United short of options in midfield.

“He’s here and he’s very valued by us,” Howe said. “He’s had a number of niggles the last couple of months which has prevented him from being involved more. I’d like to say now he’s back to his best condition.

“He’s got a valuable role to play between now and the end of the season, so I certainly won’t be loaning him anywhere.”
