Eddie Howe’s shock chance of becoming the first English Premier League title winning manager

No English manager has led a club to the Premier League title.

Howard Wilkinson remains the last English manager to lead a club to a top flight title.

That came when his Leeds United side pipped Manchester United to the Division One title in 1992, 12 months before Sir Alex Ferguson’s Red Devils became the winners of the inaugural Premier League.

The Scot went on to claim a further 12 titles before his retirement in 2013 and his record seems set to remain in place for years to come.

Another Scotsman - Kenny Dalglish - became the second manager to secure a Premier League title in 1995 when Blackburn Rovers edged out Ferguson’s men on a dramatic final day of the season.

Arsene Wenger wrote his name into the history books as the first non-British manager to become a Premier League champion when Arsenal secure the title as part of a historic double in 1998.

Since the turn of the millennium, Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, Roberto Mancini, Manuel Pellegrini, Claudio Ranieri, Antonio Conte, Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola have all led clubs to the Premier League title.

That all means that the 31st Premier League season will get underway still looking for a first English title-winning manager.

But who is the favourite to become the first ever English manager to win the Premier League? NewcastleWorld takes a look with the help of SkyBet.
