Eight players likely to leave Newcastle United - and 13 that won’t amid Eddie Howe’s telling move
A number of players are expected to leave Newcastle United before the summer transfer window slams shut.
For all the understandable talk of incomings, Newcastle United still have a number of players to move on this summer.
The Magpies have enjoyed a busy start to the transfer window by recruiting Matt Targett on a permanent basis from Aston Villa, Nick Pope and Sven Botman.
However, for Pope and Botman in particular, space must be created in the club’s 25-man Premier League squad.
Currently, United have over 30 first-team players on their books, some of which have already been told they can leave by Eddie Howe.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Ciaran Clark and Jeff Hendrick - both left out of Howe’s squad for the second half of last season - and Dwight Gayle are training with the under-23s.
Clark is reportedly interesting Birmingham City and Sheffield United, Hendrick is on Reading’s radar and Gayle is wanted by Watford and Birmingham.
Indeed, the trio are just three players that are likely to exit St James’ Park this summer.
NewcastleWorld takes a look that the players that could leave in the coming months, and those that definitely won’t.

2. Federico Fernandez - likely
There is no doubt Fernandez is a popular figure on Tyneside but his lack of game time, largely down to injuries and the form of Burn & Schar, may see the 33-year-old move on this summer.

3. Matt Ritchie - likely
A great servant and player Eddie Howe loves from his Bournemouth days. There was talk of Ritchie potentially leaving last summer, and now, after a long spell out the starting XI, the 32-year-old may feel his time has come.

4. Matty Longstaff - likely
His debut against Manchester United will live long in the memory but for one reason or another - mostly down to Steve Bruce - Longstaff’s career hasn’t progressed as expected.
