Kieran Trippier is set to start for England in Tuesday evening’s 150th Anniversary Heritage Match against Scotland at Hampden Park.

The Newcastle United defender was an unused substitute during Saturday’s 1-1 draw in Ukraine but is expected to be recalled by Gareth Southgate for the clash with the Auld Enemy.

As per Sky Sports News reporter Rob Dorsett, Trippier will replace either Manchester City’s Kyle Walker at right-back or Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell at left-back.

“I can tell you that Kieran Trippier is going to be in the news conference with Gareth Southgate a little bit later on today, which is always a very clear indication, that whoever is in that news conference is going to start for England,” Dorsett said.

“So Kieran Trippier is in, does that mean, in that little tug of war he’s having with Kyle Walker now, he’s won that tug of war and he’s going be at right back, or will he be at left back instead of Ben Chilwell?

“That’s the debate because Trippier’s versatility means he’s been used as much on the left side as he has on the right under Gareth Southgate in recent times, but Trippier will start.”

While Trippier is in line for a place in the starting XI, his Magpies teammate Callum Wilson isn’t with Harry Kane firmly ahead of the 31-year-old in the pecking order.

Both players are expected to return to Tyneside on Wednesday morning ahead of facing Brentford at St James’ Park on Saturday (kick-off 5:30pm).
