Reported Newcastle United transfer target Yankuba Minteh has stressed his desire to join the Magpies as they continue to push for a place in the Champions League.

The 18-year-old winger is said to be a target for United in a report last week and he continued his impressive introduction to life in senior setup at Danish club Odense by scoring his third goal and providing a sixth assist in 13 appearances in Monday’s 2-2 draw with Lyngby.

Minteh has also made inroads into the international scene after earning a maiden call-up to the Gambia squad for friendly games against DR Congo and Liberia earlier this season as he continues to show signs of the potential that has attracted the Magpies interest.

Responding to a question regarding a potential move to Tyneside following Monday’s draw with Lyngby, he said: “You should probably take that with my agent. I don’t know anything about it. I am ready to take the next step, and it will only be good for me. Of course, I want to go to Newcastle. It’s a big club in the Premier League and they’re doing something good. They are fighting for a place in the Champions League.”

OB sporting director Björn Wesström has given an insight into the club’s stance on the player’s future and revealed there have been talks with several potential suitors for the talented winger.

He said: “I have been in dialogue with a number of top clubs, but we don’t know how it will end. There are always many rumours about a player who has the stats he has, and that is positive. We must have recruited him well.”
