Exclusive: Newcastle United rising star to pen new deal amid Football League interest

The Blyth-born forward has 14 goals in 27 appearances for the Magpies Under-23s this season.

Newcastle United are set to hand a new deal to young forward Dylan Stephenson as a reward for his progression over the last six months.

The youngster plundered his way to 11 goals in 19 games for the club’s Under-18s last season and continued his progression with the Under-23s this season.

Stephenson got his season underway with five goals in the opening three games as United saw off Burnley and Birmingham City following an opening day draw against Reading.

Another notable high came in November when he grabbed a goal against League Two side Mansfield Town in the Papa John’s Trophy and he continued to shine in a 2-0 home win in the Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland.

His latest strike came last week when he netted a late winner in a 1-0 home win against Birmingham City to take his season tally to 14 goals in 27 games in all competitions.

Negotiations over a second senior deal have been ongoing over the last three months and they are now are set to come to a successful conclusion with Stephenson signing a contract to tie him down until the the end of the 2023/24 season.

Discussions have also set out the next steps of his career and Newcastle World understands there is a strong possibility a loan move away from Newcastle will be secured over the summer.

Several Football League, National League and Scottish clubs are believed to be monitoring the situation and are keen on taking the Magpies youngster on loan for part, if not all of next season.

The United hierachy and Stephenson’s representatives will be keen to ensure the talented forward makes the right temporary move to continue his development into the senior game.
