Newcastle United fitness and injury update on midfield duo Joelinton, Joe Willock and Martin Dubravka.

Eddie Howe has given updates on three Newcastle United players ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash at Sheffield United (kick-off 2pm).

The Magpies head to Bramall Lane following the midweek Champions League draw against AC Milan. Howe remains without midfield pair Joelinton and Joe Willock but there’s a chance the former could return ahead of schedule.

Having missed back-to-back matches versus Brentford and Milan, the Brazilian was expected to miss further games against Sheffield United, Manchester City, Burnley, Paris Saint-Germain and West Ham United.

But Howe told reporters: “We hope with Joelinton he could be back sooner but we’ll wait and see.”

On Willock, continued: “With Willock, he’ll definitely be out until the international.”

Howe could welcome back Martin Dubravka into the matchday squad. The Slovakian missed the visit to the San Siro after “feeling unwell” which saw Loris Karius and 16-year-old Aidan Harris called up in his place.

Meanwhile, Howe confirmed there are no issues with Callum Wilson’s fitness. The England striker trained separately in the build-up to the Milan game but came on as a substitute.

“With Callum, we always have to manage his load,” said Howe. “That doesn’t change whether it’s a single-game week or a three-game week, we have to monitor his training and make sure we give ourselves and Callum the best chance of staying fit through the season.”
