First look at Newcastle United’s St James’ Park summer refresh - including murals, TVs, toilets & more

Newcastle United’s home, St James’ Park, has had a revamp - and here’s a look at the changes.

New season, new look.

Newcastle United’s St James’ Park has been given a summer revamp by the club’s owners - and here’s a little look at what you can expect on your arrival at the cathedral on the hill.

While the major changes needed at SJP can wait for another year, some much-needed TLC has been applied to a structure largely untouched during the 15 years prior to the majority takeover by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia.

This evening the Magpies take on Atalanta in their first pre-season game at the stadium. And again tomorrow SJP plays host to another high-profile friendly, with La Liga outfit Athletic Bilbao on Tyneside.

The matches are the final two outings for Eddie Howe’s Magpies before they go into Premier League battle next Saturday, when newly-promoted Nottingham Forest take the journey north.

So what’s changes? Here’s a gallery of some things you might spot on your arrival at United either tonight, tomorrow or next week.
