Former Newcastle United and Liverpool transfer target Khephren Thuram has agreed to join Italian giants Juventus.

Newcastle considered a move for the Nice star last summer before pursuing a £55million deal for Sandro Tonali. Liverpool had also weighed up a swoop, however spent around £146m on midfielders Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch instead.

Nice reportedly demanded up to £50m for Thuram 12 months ago but his price tag has halved after entering the final year of his contract. As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Juventus have agreed to pay an initial £16m, rising to £21m in add-ons. His medical could take place this week.

Romano posted on X: “Khephren Thuram to Juventus, here we go! Verbal agreement in place between clubs on €20m deal plus add-ons up to €25m package. Contract until June 2029 agreed and confirmed. Documents to be exchanged today and tomorrow, final technical steps before medical tests.

“Medical tests for Khephren Thuram as new Juve player could take place this week if clubs will be ready with process to exchange docs. Salary will be around €2.5m net per season. Juve see Thuram as excellent opportunity for €20m plus €5m add-ons.”

The 23-year-old has made 167 appearances for Nice since joining from Monaco in 2019. He is the brother of Inter Milan forward Marcus, also a former Magpies’ target, and son of former France international Lillian.

Thuram has been included in France’s 25-man squad for the Olympics Games later this month with the USA first up on Wednesday, July 24.
