A rare highlight during the latter days of the Mike Ashley era, the Frenchman wowed St James’ Park crowds with his eccentric style. There was little to shout about for Toon fans during a dark period but Saint-Maximin provided a rare glimmer of hope.
The winger also endeared himself to supporters with occasional social media outbursts. Saint-Maximin, the self-anointed “King of Football Twitter”, hilariously nearly got banned from the platform for using that label.

Allan Saint-Maximin loved Newcastle United - and the feeling was mutual
Images of the mercurial wideman buying Geordie kids presents at Christmas is what made him a fans’ favourite on Tyneside. Saint-Maximin was an emotional player - and one who fell deeply in love with Newcastle.
As mentioned he was a rare bright spark in an otherwise dismal 14-year period under Ashley. The 28-year-old penned an emotional message to supporters when his exit was confirmed.
"I fell for Newcastle, I had great opportunities to leave during dark days, but that was too late,” he wrote on social media. “I was already in love, I wanted, I needed, I had to stay to help my team, to save the club from Premier League relegation because it meant the world for me.
