Former Newcastle United goalkeeper speaks out after fainting on TV coverage of Real Madrid vs AC Milan

The former player was working as a pundit on stateside TV when he fell to the floor over the weekend.

A former Newcastle United goalkeeper who fainted on live TV coverage of a fixture in the USA has spoken out after he fell to the floor this weekend.

Shaka Hislop was a pundit for ESPN’s coverage of a pre season fixture between Real Madrid and AC Milan but collapsed on live TV during coverage of the event in Los Angeles.

"That was awkward," Hislop said in a video on Twitter on Monday.

"What a 24 hours this has been. Every so often life gives you a moment to pause and this was mine."

"My response now has to be to seek out the best medical opinion I can get and listen to what my doctors have to say" added the goalkeeper who has also played for West Ham United, Portsmouth and more.

"There is so much I have to be thankful for - wife, children, family, loved ones, friends, people I have shared space with over the years and have lost touch with for whatever reason and who have reached out either directly or indirectly - thank you."

Hislop played for Newcastle United between 1995 and 1998, making a total of 71 appearances for the club. He has been working in the US media market since 2008 after ending his playing career in Dallas.
