Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul has shown he is a still big Geordie at heart after poking fun at bitter rivals Sunderland.
The Dutchman was just 17 years old when he joined the Magpies from ADO Den Haag in 2005. And by the time he departed in 2017, Krul earned the tag ‘adopted Geordie’.

Hide AdDuring his 12 years at St James’ Park, Krul made 185 appearances - first representing the club in Europe before establishing himself as their No.1 goalkeeper in the Premier League after helping United to promotion from the Championship in 2009-10.
Krul, who is now into his fifth seasonas Norwich City player, learned all about Newcastle’s rivalry with Sunderland having played in numerous Tyne-Wear derbies.
So, like many Newcastle supporters, he couldn’t help but laugh at the infamous Netflix series ‘Sunderland Til I Die’, which documented the Black Cats’ relegation to League One and their play-off final defeat to Charlton Athletic in 2019.
Admittedly, Sunderland are in a much better place now. In their first season back in England’s second-tier after a four-year absence, Tony Mowbray led the club to the Championship play-offs but suffered a semi-final loss to winners Luton Town.

Nevertheless, Krul likes to remind people of ‘Sunderland Til I Die’ and even suggested it to Ajax star and Netherlands international Jurrien Timber when the right-back asked for recommendations on a new series to watch.
Replying on Twitter, Kurl said:“You will enjoy this one mate.. Most entertaining series around”. Interestingly, Timber could become a Premier League player this summer as Arsenal attempt to sign the 22-year-old.
