A former Newcastle United star looks set to be offloaded by a League One club.

Financial troubles have rocked the Berkshire club, and they must now sell a number of senior players to balance the books, according to Football Insider.

As such, it’s claimed Tom Holmes, Nesta Guiness-Walker and Dean Bouzanis have all been put up for sale, while former Newcastle striker Andy Carroll will join them on the transfer list. Carroll has been with the Royals since last summer after he left West Brom, scoring nine goals in 31 league appearances since.

Though, he also played for Reading before joining West Brom, scoring twice in eight league appearances during a shorter spell. While Carroll is not earning anywhere near what he did during his Newcastle and Liverpool days, he is not on a League One wage, and Reading are already struggling financially following their relegation.

Carroll will now search for a new club and his sixthnew permanent club of his career. He spent two spells with Newcastle, initially impressing between 2006 and 2011, scoring 31 times in 80 league games, while he scored only once in 37 league games after returning for a shorter spell in 2019. The former England international is now 34 years of age and his Reading contract runs until the summer of 2024.
