If you didn't know it already, former Sunderland and Newcastle United striker Michael Chopra has nailed his colours to the mast ahead of the first Tyne-Wear derby in nearly eight years.

Eddie Howe takes his Magpies' side to the Stadium of Light for the FA Cup third round tie tomorrow, the first time Newcastle have visited Wearside since 2015. And Newcastle will do so with the backing of around 6,000 fans.

As a player, Chopra spanned both sides of the divide. Born on Tyneside, coming through the academy at Newcastle United, even scoring against Sunderland in a 4-1 win, the striker then went on to represent the Mackems.

However, he's taken to social media to make sure there is no doubt about his allegiances heading into the first derby in nearly eight years.

Chopra took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to post a popular Newcastle derby day chant, which highlights the dislike between the sides - and clearly the Geordie ex-pro, too.

He said: "We hate you Sunderland we do we hate you Sunderland we do, we hate you Sunderland we do, ohhh Sunderland we hate you. One more sleep #TOONTOON #NUFC."

Sunderland host Newcastle at 12.45pm on Saturday - and NewcastleWorld can reveal what colour the Magpies will wear.

And the strip combination is a whole lot less common that you'd imagine.
