Newcastle United play their second game in three days as Southampton visit St James’ Park this afternoon (kick-off 2pm).
After humiliating Tottenham Hotspur 6-1 on Sunday, Eddie Howe recalled the likes of Matt Targett, Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson for Thursday night’s win at Everton. Wilson scored a brace, while Joelinton and Jacob Murphy also found the net.
Howe is again likely to make changes against Southampton with Dan Burn, Alexander Isak and Murphy among those under consideration. United, however, are expected to be without Sean Longstaff, who, as reported by NewcastleWorld, went for a scan on Friday.
Newcastle are already without Allan Saint-Maximin due to a hamstring issue.

1. GK: Nick Pope
Pope has kept just one clean sheet in his last 13 games having previously gone 10 matches without conceding.

2. RB: Kieran Trippier
Trippier put in a proper captain’s display against Everton. He even took a nasty knock for his troubles but battled on.

3. CB: Fabian Schar
Schar defended well in midweek and was denied an excellent goal after a VAR

4. CB: Sven Botman
Botman came up against the height and physicality of Dominic Calvert-Lewin last time out - and coped well.
