Newcastle United transfer news and rumours on deadline day

Hugo Ekitike is close to joining Eintracht Frankfurt until the end of the season, according to reports. The Frenchman's nightmare at Paris Saint-Germain is set to end after just 18 months. It is also understood that Frankfurt will have an obligation to buy Ekitike in the summer.

What was supposed to be a dream move to the Parisians spiralled into a nightmare after Luis Enrique banished him from the squad. As a result, the 21-year-old has played just eight minutes - on the opening day - of Ligue 1 action all season.

Ekitike joined PSG after a lengthy transfer saga, with Newcastle United missing out twice on the forward. He had only just broken into the Reims side when the Magpies first failed to land their man two years ago.

Toon supporters understood that asking a youngster to move country on deadline day was a tough ask but they were not as forgiving six months later. Newcastle again agreed a fee with Reims and Ekitike appeared destined to join the Saudi-backed revolution at St James’ Park.

However, delay from the player’s camp, understood to have been orchestrated by his agent, Karl Mwalako Buchmann, left a sour taste. Ekitike’s representative then basked in the glory once a move to PSG was confirmed.

"Now I know that the future is not written anywhere,” Buchmann wrote on Instagram. “Only 20 years old and if you still have a lot to offer of your talent, I can already testify to your loyalty, your integrity and your courage. Thank you for never doubting me. I respect you for that lil bro. You're a real man. They didn't believe in us. God did!"

The move ultimately failed and Ekitike is now on the brink of cutting ties with the Parc des Princes. Reports suggested a Premier League move could finally be on the cards but Manchester United and West Ham had shelved interest.

That left the door open for Frankfurt to liberate him from his PSG torment. The Bundesliga outfit are currently sixth and remain in the hunt for a Champions League finish.
