Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Gary O'Neil is relishing his side's trip to St James' Park to face "dangerous" Newcastle United.

Wolves visit Tyneside one place and one point better off than the Magpies' in the Premier League table. Eddie Howe's side have fallen to 10th in recent weeks having collected just 11 points from their previous 12 matches.

United last won a home game on December 16, which is the same weekend Wolves last tasted defeat on their travels. They have most recently beaten Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, and O'Neil is eyeing another big result.

He said: "I’m really looking forward to Saturday, because it’s an incredible place to go, St James’ Park, and it’s a real good test because they come at you with everything there.

"They’re really aggressive and hopefully the boys can show once again that we can stand up to good sides and give a real good account of ourselves."

O'Neil, however, isn't reading too much into Newcastle's struggles of late and believes the return of Alexander Isak, Joe Willock and Elliot Anderson from injury last week is a "massive plus".

“They’ve suffered really badly with injuries," he continued. "I talk about ours, but ours have only ever been one or two, but because of the size of our squad, that always feels like it has a big impact. Newcastle have suffered far more than that and have had a lot of key players missing, which makes it extremely tough.

“They’ve had a tough time, especially with the extra games they’ve had to play in Europe, but a lot of players are coming back now – [Alexander] Isak is a massive plus for them, so they’ll be a threat. We go there expecting to face a Newcastle team who are very dangerous."

Wolves and Newcastle played out a 2-2 draw at Molineux earlier in the season. The two teams head into the fixture having won their respective FA Cup fifth round ties against Brighton & Hove Albion and Blackburn Rovers.
