Harry Kane has hailed St James’ Park as an “incredible stadium” as his Tottenham Hotspur side prepare to face Newcastle United this afternoon (kick-off 2pm).

The stakes are high on Tyneside in the race for Champions League qualification. Eddie Howe’s side are aiming for a win that will take them six points above fifth-place Spurs, still with a game in-hand to play.

And like his interim boss Cristian Stellini, Kane is expecting the Geordie faithful to create a great atmosphere.

“Newcastle away is always a great game, a great atmosphere,” Kane told YouTuber Pieface when asked what stadium he likes visiting the most

“It’s an incredible stadium, St. James’ Park. I enjoy it. I look forward to that game.

“The fans up there are mad for Newcastle as well, so it’s normally a great atmosphere and a great game to be involved with.”

Spurs head to the North East on the back of a surprise 3-2 home defeat to Bournemouth, while Newcastle are also looking to bounce back from suffering their heaviest loss of the campaign at Aston Villa last weekend.

Stellini, speaking at his press conference on Friday, labelled St James’ Park as “one of the worst stadiums” to play in because of its powerful atmosphere.

“We have had one week to recharge after the last game,” said Tottenham’s interim head coach. “We’ve had a good week and we are well-prepared to play this type of game.

“It will be tough, it is never easy in the Premier League. This is probably one of the worst stadiums to play for the atmosphere and power.

“But we have a good squad and I believe in the players, in the team and club. We are prepared.”
