Hugo Ekitike’s agent might have sent Newcastle United a cryptic message.

Hugo Ekitike’s agent Karl Mwalako Buchmann has thanked the French star for “never doubting” him after joining Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Newcastle United’s pursuit of the 20-year-old officially came to an end last week after he joined PSG on a season-long loan deal, which includes an option to buy next summer.

The Magpies first attempted to land Ekitike during the January transfer window but he decided against a mid-season move.

A move was quickly revisited this summer but United could not settle on matters with his agent - forcing the deal to stall.

It was felt Ekitike’s agent was holding out for other offers - and so that proved when he was announced as a PSG player.

So the fact Buchmann has thanked Ekitike for “never doubting” him when he could have easily joined Newcastle is definitely cryptic.

Of course, there’s no way of knowing if Buchmann has said that with the Magpies in mind but it is interesting.

Writing on Instagram, Buchmann said: “Bienvenue Ekitike to PSG. Now I know that the future is not written anywhere.

“Only 20 years old and if you still have a lot to offer of your talent, I can already testify to your loyalty, your integrity and your courage.

“Thank you for never doubting me. I respect you for that lil bro. You’re a real man. They didn’t believe in us. God did!”
