Newcastle United dropped two points in the Premier League despite coming from behind against Brighton.

Bruno Guimaraes was a key talking point in Newcastle United’s home draw with Brighton in the Premier League.

Speculation has been rife about the player’s future, especially after a release clause, and a window in which club’s can activate it, was confirmed by Eddie Howe last month.

So, when the final whistle went, all eyes were focussed on how the player would react. Would he look like a figure saying his farewells or would there be hints he would stay?

It’s fair to say, it’s impossible to tell, however, Guimaraes was certainly animated.

As the referee called a close to the encounter, the player dropped to the floor and remained seated while others reacted around him. Despite the best efforts of Kieran Trippier and Graeme Jones to console him, he remained motionless and stared into the stands.

He perked up slightly when his family came on to the pitch for the lap of appreciation. During that lap, he held himself back from his teammates before exiting before the rest as things wound down.

Can you read anything into it? Fans have certainly tried to. Here’s what some have been saying about Guimaraes’ reaction.

@Anagram602: “He knows we won’t get Europe now.”

@hayleyweeen: “I thought Bruno was well off his best today. He was taking too long on the ball and then so many passes going long. Lost the ball taking too long to pick a pass and that ultimately led to the corner where they ended up getting their goal. He’d been immense, just not his day.

@itsrolaaq: “that’s someone contemplating their future especially having to carry the load of the midfield for an entire season almost entirely in his own.”

@BeardslyShuffle: “Knows he's going to have to leave in the Summer to get Europe.”

@callyb761: “I think he'll go if we aren't in Europe.”

@oinkbaamoo: “He's off.”
