Newcastle United have enjoyed a respectable transfer window this summer, bringing in four new permanent signings including Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes. The Magpies also completed a loan move for Lewis Hall from Chelsea in order to stack up all areas of their squad.

With five new players over the threshold, many believed Newcastle would be wrapping things up now and sitting back while the deadline day chaos unfolds around them. However, there could still be some surprises around the corner as Eddie Howe’s side continue to find themselves linked to new recruits.

Earlier this week, journalist Paul Brown told GiveMeSport that the Toon are interested in PSV’s Johan Bakayoko, who has tallied seven goals and nine assists for the club’s first team so far.

“He’s certainly very highly-rated, yeah. I think there are a couple of teams potentially looking to sign him,” he said. “Newcastle I believe are also interested in Bakayoko. He’s very young, so he’d be a signing that you’d expect to get better and have his best years at your club if you were to sign him now.”

Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided an extra update on the winger’s situation and reported on Twitter than he could be leaving the club before Friday’s deadline hits.

“Understand there’s concrete chance to see Johan Bakayoko leaving PSV in the final days of the window with clubs now pushing. This is likely due to Hirving Lozano who’s on the verge of joining PSV Eindhoven — his return from Napoli is imminent,” the transfer expert wrote.

Bakayoko only signed for PSV last summer but he is already being linked to an exit, despite having three years left on his contract. At just 20 years of age though, he has a whole career of him to grow and flourish at new clubs and the Premier League is definitely a place for him to learn quickly. Bakayoko would also provide more depth for Howe and his team as they prepare for Champions League football this season, as well as another top four push in the Premier League.
