Newcastle United are reportedly ‘preparing’ a £40m bid for Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic as the January transfer window approaches.
The Sunday Mirror reported the Magpies’ priority for the window is to add a ‘wide running player’ to their squad, with Leeds United’s Jack Harrison and Brighton and Hove Albion’s Leandro Trossard both under consideration. The report also suggests United States star Pulisic ‘could be persuaded to move North’ if he is promised regular first-team football that he has not secured at Stamford Bridge.

It’s cool having some American guys around,” he revealed in the aftermath of the takeover. It’s mostly focusing on what’s going on at Chelsea, what’s happening in pre-season. We are excited to get the season started. I am focused on how I can help this team right now and in the near future.”
After making just one Premier League start during the first eight weeks of the season under former manager Thomas Tuchel, Pulisic expressed his hope that he would get a chance to ‘prove himself’ after the Blues appointed Brighton manager Graham Potter as successor to the German.
Following Potter’s appointment, he told ESPN: ”I’m feeling good going back, honestly. I have a fresh start now, and I’m excited to play for the new manager. So really just looking forward to it. I just have to prove myself, as everyone does, and as I’ve done before.”
However, more frustration has followed, with Pulisic making just four starts in all competitions since Potter took charge. His last appearance came as a half-time substitute as a Joe Willock goal condemned Chelsea to a narrow defeat at Newcastle - and reports suggest the winger’s next appearance at St James Park could well come in the black and white of United.
