Some of world football’s greatest names have been linked with a move to Tyneside ever since the PIF-backed consortium took control of the club on a dramatic day in October.
But once the smoke had settled and focus truly turned towards attempts to bolster Eddie Howe’s squad, it became clear that a more measured approach would be taken as the Magpies looked to boost their bid to maintain their Premier League status.
The completion of a deal for Atletico Madrid and England star Kieran Trippier got the month off to a fine start and the attacking ranks were strengthened with a £25million deal for Burnley striker Chris Wood.
A surprise move worth up to £40million saw Lyon’s highly-rated Brazilian international Bruno Guimaraes move to St James Park and the business was concluded with double defensive deadline day swoop for Aston Villa left-back Matt Targett and Brighton’s Blyth-born star Dan Burn.
Results have taken a severe upturn once the window closed with Eddie Howe leading his new-look side away from the relegation zone and Saturday’s 2-0 win at Brentford has left United with a four-point gap to the bottom three.

1. Jesse Lingard (Manchester United)

2. Diego Carlos (Sevilla)
Carlos has remained true to his word that he would give his all for Sevilla after Newcastle’s attempts to take him to Tyneside came to an unsuccessful end. 4. Donny Van de Beek (Everton)
Van de Beek made his Everton debut as a substitute in their 3-1 away defeat against Newcastle a week after joining the Toffees. He has started all three of the following Premier League games for Frank Lampard’s side. He hobbled out of Saturday’s home loss with Manchester City and his injury is currently being assessed.
