How new Newcastle United signing Nick Pope outperformed Manchester United & Aston Villa stars last season

The Burnley and England stopper is set to become the Magpies second first-team addition of the summer.

Nick Pope is set to become Eddie Howe’s second senior signing of the summer as the Newcastle United manager looks to provide competition for first-choice goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

The Burnley and England goalkeeper has completed his medical and agreed personal in the North East on Thursday morning.

Pope has not taken a conventional route to the Premier League, starting his career with non-league club Bury Town before returning to the professional game with Charlton Athletic in 2011.

Loan spells with the likes of Harrow Borough, Cambridge United and York City gave Pope some much-needed senior experience and his form on his return to Charlton earned him a move to Burnley in 2016.

After fighting off competition from former England goalkeepr Tom Heaton, the Soham-born stopper became the Clarets regular number one over the last four seasons and now he will hope to do similar at Newcastle.

Using stats provided by NBC, NewcastleWorld takes a look at how Pope’s save percentage compared to Magpies keeper Dubravka and their Premier League rivals last season.
